January 26, 2017, India is celebrating its 68th Republic day. India became a free nation on August 15, 1947; it declares itself a Sovereign, Democratic and Republic state with the adoption of the Constitution on January 26, 1950. The constitution of India came into effect on January 26, 1950, and since then, it is celebrated annually as Republic Day in India.

Dr. Rajendra Prasad took oath as the first President of India at the Darbar Hall in Government House. The constitution of India gave a right to the citizens to choose their own government and paved the way for democracy. A 21-gun salute in honor of President and the unfurling of the Indian National Flag heralded the historic birth of the Indian Republic day.
