Before preparing the Chicken, there are a few things you need to take care of to prevent salmonella bacteria and food poisoning. Yes, It sounds bit harsh, and you must be thinking that Chicken isn't right meat for you, but that's not correct.

There are ways to make yourself safe and secure from getting food poisoning in the first place, and those steps are straightforward and easy. You don't have to worry about getting caught by the bacteria and also don't have to think about having Chicken in the diet chart or not because Chicken is delicious and healthy food for you. You have to follow these steps of habits of buying, preparing and storing the Chicken safely. There are four simple words which can help you to keep your Chicken safe - Cold, Clean, Separate and Cook.

Keep Your Chicken Cold

The prevent the food poisoning and stop the growth of harmful bacteria; you have to keep your Chicken in the cold area. Freezing the fresh meat decreases the chances of catching the bacteria because the temperature is one the reason which spreads food poisoning and salmonella in the Chicken. The lousy atmosphere is the most significant reason which covers FAT TOM that causes food poisoning. FAT TOM stands for:

  • Food

  • Acidity

  • Time

  • Temperature

  • Oxygen

  • Moisture


Now the question which generally occurs that at what temperature should raw Chicken is stored? Well, the answer is simple, keep the Chicken at 40°F or colder. Keeping your Chicken in a cold place will stop growing the bacteria, and your Chicken will be safe.


Clean:

Make sure you clean the utensils, cutting board and the kitchen work-spaces with hot water. Cleaning is the first step for chicken safety. Do not forget to wash your hand first. The side must be removed before and after handling the food items.

Separate:

Separate your grocery list and avoid the cross-contamination. Separate your raw Chicken from poultry and other items. Manage your refrigerator and kitchen to handling raw Chicken and saving it from caught the bacteria from the other foods. Make sure you use the separate cutting board for raw meat and poultry.


Cook:

The first thing to remember before start cooking that you do not wash the Chicken in the sink. You must be thinking, cleaning poultry in the pan will remove the bacteria, well, it isn't. It will make it worse. Instead, it will spread the bacteria all over the pan, and there will be chances that other food will catch the bacteria, and you can be in trouble. The best thing to kill the bacteria is to cook Chicken to safe internal temperature.
